K-12 Student Success Task Force
On August 28, LSCA Chair Val Estoque and LSCA Assistant DIrector of Advocacy Dr. Tara Washington spoke to members of the K-12 Student Success Task Force about the role of school counselors. The task force was created to "study and make recommendations on a statewide plan for advising students on career and academic pathways in K-12 public schools," as written by Senator Edmonds in SCR No. 65. The duo showed how school counselors Amplify Student Success through comprehensive school counseling programs, highlighting barriers that limit counselors' ability to provide these services. When school counselors have the time, resources, and access to do the work they are trained to do, Louisiana students benefit.
Every student deserves a school counselor.

Louisiana School Counselors are FIRED UP!
LSCA SCHOLARSHIPS
The Louisiana School Counselor Association (LSCA) will offer two $1000 scholarships to school counseling students who are members of LSCA. In addition, LSCA will offer one $500 research grant to one graduate student, professional school counselor, or counselor educator for 2024. The LSCA 2024 Research Grant is designed to be used to support research in the area of school counselor effectiveness, transformation of the school counseling profession, or school counselors and student outcomes.
The 2024 application has closed. Stay tuned for the 2025 application process next school year.
