LSCA AWARDS and RECOGNITION PROGRAM
LSCA accepts nominations for those persons who have made
outstanding contributions to school counselors or to education with
special emphasis on the school counseling profession. This year, we
are seeking to identify and recognize those persons who are
implementing the Comprehensive School Counseling Model. Nominations
with accompanying paperwork must be received by the Awards Chair no
later than August 19, 2011. However,
they will be accepted by the chair at any time preceding that
deadline. Awards are presented to the winners at the annual
conference held on September 18-20, 2011 at the Hilton
Capitol Center in Baton
Rouge. All persons nominated, with the exception of
advocacy and legislator nominations must be current
members of LSCA, answer the two questions on the criteria sheet,
submit 3 letters of recommendation. State winners will
be forwarded to the American School Counselor Association for
consideration for national recognition if additional information is
supplied by the winner.

NOMINATION
PROCEDURE
Submit the Nomination Form below,
answers to the 2 questions on the form, and 3 letters of
recommendation (one from current
principal) stating reasons for believing the nominee
should be recognized by LSCA. The letter should/could include
information about the nominee's implementation of a Comprehensive
Counseling Program meeting the needs of all students and activities
initiated by the nominee within this school year or last school
year, which benefit recipients of counseling, services rendered to
the counseling profession, personal qualities, and other aspects
that you feel make him/her an outstanding counselor, advocate, or
legislator. Portfolios should NOT be presented.

ELIMENTARY, MIDDLE, HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR OF THE
YEAR
The purpose of the four awards is to recognize an elementary,
middle/junior high, secondary and postsecondary counselor for
outstanding service and achievement. In addition to the recognition
given to the recipient of the award, positive public attention is
focused on school counseling and thus provides an opportunity to
educate others about comprehensive school
counseling programs.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION:
1. The nominee must be currently employed as a full time
counselor and have completed three consecutive years
of counseling service at the level of nomination.
2. The nominee must be a LSCA member.
3. The nominee must hold a Master's Degree and be certified as a
counselor by the state.
CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION:
1. The nominee should possess the personal qualities thought to
be desirable in a counselor.
2. The nominee must have been responsible for innovations
in a comprehensive school counseling program,
for providing leadership in the further development of
existing counseling services, for demonstrating leadership in
professional counseling associations, and for performing an
outstanding service to the school and/or community.
3. The activities or accomplishments recognized must have taken
place within two years prior to the date of presentation.

Questions**
1. What are examples of ways you have advocated for the
profession throughout your career? (250 - 500 words)
2. How does your comprehensive school counseling program
use advocacy, leadership, systemic change and collaboration to
make a difference for students? (750 - 1,000 words)
SCHOOL BASED ADMINISTRATOR/SUPERVISOR
The purpose of this award is to recognize an
administrator in a local district who has promoted and supported
the school counseling program.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION:
1. Nominee must be a school-based administrator who has
consistently made a significant contribution to the improvement
of the comprehensive school counseling program and/or has
supported existing programs in the school setting.
2. Nominee must be currently employed as a full-time school
based administrator and have completed at least three years of
service. The nominee's primary responsibility must be in working
with, supporting, and improving the comprehensive school
counseling program(s) within a district/school.
3. Nominee does need to be a member of LSCA.
CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION:
1. Supporting existing and/or new comprehensive school
counseling program(s) within the district/school.
2. Assisting school based counselors with their profession and
implementation of their profession.
3. Recognizing the importance of the comprehensive school
counseling program within the district/school.
ADVOCACY AWARD
The purpose of the Advocacy Award is to recognize an
administrator, coordinator, director or supervisor whose leadership
has shown outstanding services and impact in the school
counseling field for counselors on a local, state, or national
level.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION:
1. Nominee must be an administrator, coordinator, director or
supervisor of district or state school counseling
services who has consistently made a significant contribution to
the improvement of school counseling programs in the
school settings or at the state level.
2. Nominee must be currently employed as a full-time supervisor,
coordinator or director of district guidance services or state
level and has completed at least three years of service. The
nominee's primary responsibility must be in working with school
counseling programs at the district/school/state level.
3. Nominee does not have to be a member of LSCA.
CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION:
1. Initiation of a comprehensive school
counseling program.
2. Implementation of innovative comprehensive school counseling
services.
3. Improvement of existing comprehensive school counseling
services
